It’s always satisfying to get a good multiday ski tour in the bag early in the season – so a quick report from this years Queyras Ski Tour. Like much of the Alps early this season, snow cover is thin low down at the moment in the Queyras, but good higher up – so for the first half of the week we stuck to plan A, spending 2 nights with Francois, the entertaining guardian at the Refuge de la Blanche, enjoying some good powder on Pic Caramantrin and the Col Blanchet, before heading back out to Molines via the Pic Traversiere and Col Longet.
Sticking with the same Gites as planned each night, we then made a few tweaks to the itinerary to ensure good skiing each day. I work in the area every winter and have done for years now, it’s easy enough to keep the ball rolling and find the best snow – ie there’s always powder to be found in the forests and sheltered valleys at this time of year if you know where to look!
Special mention to the Gites and Refuges too – a warm welcome each afternoon, coupled lovely home cooked food and a warm fire to relax around every evening make for a relaxing trip.
Finally, thanks to the team – Andy and Louise and father and son team Peter and Sam – for making it such an enjoyable week.
