Climbing Mont Blanc

Due to the wide variety of work I do, it’s not that often that I get to climb Mont Blanc – so a nice way to finish off the season.   First off thanks to Matt, Rich, Steve and Barry for being such an excellent team –  great company and well prepared for the week – and Phil D for sterling guiding on the 2nd half of the week on MB.

We started off with 3 days training and acclimatisation based at the Vitorio Emanuele Hut, in the Gran Paradiso National Park over in Italy.  The weather was pretty ‘Scottish’-  but that didn’t stop us completing our acclimatisation program by first climbing La Tresenta and then the Gran Paradiso itself, in order to touch 4000m in readiness for the ‘Blanc.

Back to Chamonix and we split groups to make best use of the weather conditions and our hut bookings at the Gouter Hut.  Rich, Steve and myself went up first – enjoying an amazing dawn from the summit, but enduring cold and windy conditions on the ascent.  Matt, Barry and Phil followed a day later with muchy calmer conditions to complete a 100% summiting record for the week.

On the final day Rich, Steve and I finished with a days rock climbing on L’Index to round off an excellent trip.
