Tech Alpine Course

A quick report on this weeks Technical Alpine Climbing Course, with Mikko and Lauri from Finland.  On Monday we headed up into the Aiguille Rouges to the Chapelle de la Gliere for a long alpine rock route, looking at trad leading, time saving techniques and efficient climbing style.

Tuesday the focus switched to alpine moving together, short pitching and descending techniques, glacier travel and route finding with and independant ascent of the Aiguille D’Entreves.

On Wednesday we put it all together with Mikko and Lauri leading Lepidopteres, then following the last two pitches of the Pappilons Arete before making a multipitch abseil descent back to our gear before the weather closed in.

Thursday we made the best of a poor weather day with a theory session on maps and guidebooks, alpine weather and climbing conditions, information gathering and route planning – before heading out to the crag for a prussicking session, followed by improvised rescue training.

On the final day, we escaped the rain in Cham by heading down to Albard in Italy where the Guys lead the 9 pitch Dr Jimmy – so all in all a good week making the best of a mixed bag of climbing conditions and covering plenty of useful skills.
