Alpine Climbing Conditions – 21/06/09

Ok – time for a quick conditions roundup: As mentioned in the previous post – it’s very snowy, with good cover on the high glaciers making for fast progress to reach routes.
Many alpine ice and mixed climbing faces are in very good condition at the moment – with plenty of activity on the N face of the Chardonnet, MB de Tacul, Tour Ronde, Aiguille Verte etc – all the major lines on Mt Maudit and the Eckpfeiler look complete, the Jorrasses is plastered, as are the Droites and Courtes (though you’ll have a long walk and a bivi for these, as the lift doesn’t open till last w/e in June and the Argentiere hut is closed all summer for refurbishment).
Qute a bit of steep skiing going on – eg Verte etc – at the moment too.  For the next few days it’s forecast to be very cold, with a strong northerly – so a good time to get some ice and mixed action in.  Pics show conds on the Dent du Geant and by contrast, some sunny alpine rock at Col Colombiere in the Aravis.
