January working out in La Grave was amazing, with the fattest ice for a good few years, but it was even better to arrive home and find Wales in the middle of its own mini ice age! I managed to grab a couple of good day trips, one with Andy Cave to explore the superb Cwm Lloer, where we did 3 little new routes. Then just before the thaw I teamed up with Andy Benson and made possibly the third ascent of Flanders on the Black Ladders. This had been on the list since I first saw this big vegetated HVS in the guidebook, and heard rumours of epic attempts and then Chris and Dais ascents in the 90’s. It turned out to be a brilliant adventure with some hard and exposed climbing, and prob worth VII, 7 in new money.
