Mountain Rescue Teams Under Threat

This has been in the offing for some time, but in case you haven’t heard about it - Ofcom want to drastically increase the amounts that the RNLI and Mountain Rescue Teams have to pay to use radios – maybe by  more than £100,000 a year – by selling the bandwidth they are using at present.

As mountain rescue teams in the UK are volunteer run and dependant entirely on public donations, this would be a disaster for them if put into effect.  If you’d like to let the government know how you feel on this one, please sign the petition against the charging of MR teams, at Number 10 Downing Street, which you can sign on-line at the link below.http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/MRT-RF-licences/Please have a look, and pass this on to other interested people!

UPDATE 18/11/08 – Thanks to all those made their views known to the government: Today, Ofcom issued a ‘clarification’ –  stating that Maritime and Mountain rescue services wouldn’t be included in these proposals after all…
