Alpine Conditions Update – 28/07/07

It’s hot & summery at last, but still with a lot of snow & ice on the north faces.  If you are trying to climb ths style of route though – you need to choose your timing very carefully, as fine weather inevitably brings higher freezing levels… I had a good look at the NW Face of Pic Sans Nom on thursday from the Petit Aiguille Verte and it looked like a probable goer – the upper wall in particular holding a lot of ice (Cohen – Collister is in for sure + possibly other lines too).

NW Face of Pic Sans Nom – 26/07/07

If you fancy a real adventure (ie a long walk!) then the Miage Face on the Blanc looked in good nick from the top the top of Val Veny, where I was out running this morning.  It’s comparable to the Brenva Face, but gets the sun much later in the day – on the RH spur, the ice cliff band that gives access to the summit slopes looked very amenable at the moment.
