Merrell Skyrace ’07

If you’ve not heard of these before – Skyraces are basically long distance, high altitude fell races.  This particular one starts in Serre Chevalier traversing several cols around the region, with a different route being followed each year. It’s quite popular, with a 700 entry limit and a shorter half race as well.

The ’07 edition was 57km, 2500m+ and crossed the Col du Galibier before descending down the back via a couple of valleys and smaller cols to the Col des Cerces before heading back to Serre Chevalier.  This was my first long race of the season, so I took it quite steadily to stop things going too pear shaped near the end.  This worked well, as several folk were suffering on the second half & I finally came 15th, in 6hrs – so a good result all told.
