Up on the Midi today to climb the Chere Couloir, which turned out to be in exceptional condition due to all the recent snow – getting there and back involved a bit of trail breaking though! Above 3500m there is a lot of ice about, with lines like the Voie Perroux just left of the Chere possibly being a goer (it’s very rarely in condition). However snow conditions are still very unstable on loaded slopes up high (avalanche accident on the North slope normal route on the Tacul yesterday), so a lot of care is required just now in terms of choice of routes in the high mountains.
