Touring in the Aravis

After a good day out on the Col de Chasseurs at Contamines yesterday on our Chamonix backcountry ski week, we travelled down to the Aravis this morning in search of adventure & hopefully some more powder.

Currently the best snow seems to be lying in sheltered aspects between 1700-2300m, so we figured this was a suitable spot to head to.  The first short climb and descent proved quite icy, but after that the fine views and a summit lunch set us up well for some great turns in good soft snow – so nice in fact that we skinned up once more to ski it all again!

Below 1600m there’s still no real base round here however, so we had quite a rockfest to reach the valley and finally the Bar at the Lac des Confins.
