Equipment Testing – Latest

We’ve had the new range of Vasque footwear on test recently. The Blur trail shoes have proved a firm favourite for Al’s winter training and the Ice 9000 boots did a fine job of keeping Rich’s feet toasty in the Alps.

Vasque are a well known footwear brand from the States, but only recently introduced into Europe. They have a range of specialist footwear including the light weight Super Alpinista – an excellent all rounder for ice/mixed alpinism that looks set to replace the Sportiva Nepal Extrem as our recommended ‘best boot for all’.  We’ll be putting them through their paces on the ice this winter, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

On the axe front, DMM’s Rebel and Anarchist tools have been our firm favourite with us since last season - and will be available for test along with their excellent Xeno axes during our La Grave ice climbing courses.

For the skiers out there, check out the brand new Backcountry UK online store,  offering the best range of specialist touring equipment in the UK – along with all mountain skis for off piste performance.

The Backcountry highstreet shop in Ilkley, Yorkshire is also one of the best boot fitting centres in the country - offering a top notch fitting service including foot beds and thermoformed inners for all types of ski and mountaineering boots.  If you’ve got a problem with an existing pair of boots, they also do full refits and boot stretching to get you back on your feet and comfortable again.
